Compton, California (October 26, 2009) – The Compton Cobras, the City of Compton’s own professional basketball team under the American Basketball Association, today announced that tip-off for their inaugural season is set for the first week of December.
The high-energy Cobras take on the fierce LA Slam in a Dec. 5 home-game opener at the Compton Center Main Gym (Ice Box). Look forward to high-scoring, fast-paced b-ball wizardry along with a professional basketball team dedicated to empowering the Compton community.
“We will provide an environment that involves the community and brings a sense of unity,” says Compton Cobras General Manager Samuel Sutherland. A Carson native, Sutherland is a former athlete, community organizer and entrepreneur. He adds, “As members of the Compton community, we Cobras are committed to community development, enrichment and support of surrounding businesses through our ABA-league exposure. The potential for the City of Compton and the Cobras is tremendous. The sky’s the limit!”
With more than 50 ABA teams nationwide, the Compton Cobras have a tough schedule that includes 17 home games against teams that are past divisional playoff leaders. Expect nonstop entertainment from pre-game rallies to half-time dance-offs to post-game player chats. Following each game, fans have the opportunity to interact with all ABA players. Affordable game tickets ($12 general admission, $8 students w/ID, seniors and military, $5 for ages 12 and under) make it possible for the whole family to enjoy skilled athletes go for high hoops.
